Week 9, Thing 23: Reflection on Technology in the Classroom

Technology is so important in this world of digital learners. Gone are the days of rote memorization and silent classrooms. Each child learns in a different way, and we as educators must provide them with the mediums they need to succeed. With Web 2.0 tools, we can create dynamic classroom settings, where students are creating, collaborating, and learning in unique ways.

I am going to pick one new technology at a time to introduce to my students, and find tools to make teaching easier and more engaging!

Week 8, Thing 21: Storyboards

I really, really love digital storytelling. Here are a couple of examples that you could use:

It's raining cats. Just cats. Don't ask me where the dogs are coz I don't know. on Storybird

Here are some example for classroom use:

Personal Narrative

A work of fiction

A Book review, A Bookfomercial, A Book Trailer or a Book Talk
A documentary

A Persuasive/Public Service Announcement

Clay or Stop Animation

A new ending to a well known story

The True Story behind the story (in the fashion of The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs!)

Teach a Unit of Instruction

An Interview

A Poem - Use this Fill in the Blank poem creator, then create your digital story based on the poem.

A Photo Field Trip

A Rebus Story

A Class (or individual) Show and Tell

Short 30 second videos demonstrating the definition to spelling/ACT/SAT Words (examples (mostly YouTube vids, sorry!)

"Priceless" Commercials (like the MasterCard ads)

Riddles - add one picture multiple times, zoom into different parts of the pictures and give clues about the item (or event) for each zoom in. Then show the answer at the end.

To introduce digital storytelling or a program like Photo Story have students create an "All about Me" or a "Life around Here" (their city, their home, school...) video

Week 8, Thing 20:Amimoto

A digital photo story with music:

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

Week 8, Thing 19: Digital Storytelling

Week 7, thing 18: Wordle and Tagxedo

Twenty Five Interesting Ways To Use Wordle In  I really, really like Wordle and tagxedo for use in the classroom! I am planning on using it this year for an "about me" for each student, a welcome sign with all the students' names on my door, and a classroom rules wordle. I even think I will use it for synonyms for vocab words. It should be fun!!
